Go Green

A downtown bus stop, the green line is just one of the WTA's lines that have a bus every ten minutes.  Around town there are also red, blue, yellow and plum lines.

Leftovers

We had an odd winter day on Sunday. First it was cold and clear, so my family headed over to our garden plot and my daughters fished around in the dirt and this beautiful carrot was found leftover from summer.  Not long after the carrot was discovered a wet snow storm swept through and turned our world white for an hour or so.

Ornamental Grass

I think this ornamental grass is actually prettier in the winter then in the summer.  The red strands pop out in its dormant stage.



Tag!

This is one of the more ambitious tags I've seen on a railroad car. 

I was at a tank car loading facility recently when a railroad employee began cleaning graffiti off the car identification numbers.  He would spray something over the area that needed to be cleaned up and wait several minutes before coming over and scrubbing off the graffiti. The paint rubbed off almost effortlessly, so whatever solvent he used must have been powerful:  I was about twenty feet away and it was making me light headed.

This gentlemen gets his kite flying at Zuanich Point Park on a nice breezy afternoon.  Its the best location in town to fly a kite.

Pacific Giant

This was the last day this pacific ocean giant octopus was on display at the Seattle Aquarium.  She was going to be released back into Puget Sound this weekend.  When we visited she was weighed for the last time before her release and she weighed in at 56 pounds.

You Lichen?

This weekend the girls and I visited my dad near Eatonville. My daughter and I took a walk up the dirt road that serves as the driveway and came upon a log pile that she spent a good amount of time exploring, leaving me to entertain myself for a few minutes. Naturally, I broke out the camera and lacking any magnificent scenery, got low for some macros.

A Change of Pace

What Was Once GP

The Georgia Pacific Plant closed close to five years ago and little has been done to turn the site into the tourist friendly boardwalk that the city has planned.  Time just continues to wallow away the fifty year old buildings.

All Signs Point Up

The sailboat masts rise up to the sky at Bellingham marina, as does the steeple of St. Pauls Episcopal Church.  The church was built in 1885 on a bluff over looking the bay on historic and grand Eldridge Avenue.

Another Perspective

When Eli posted his Skywatch Friday shot of the view of Bellingham bay shot from WWU's Viking Union, I thought I should share a shot from Zuanich Point Park on the bay looking up at WWU nestled on Sehome Hill.  The red brick buildings to the upper left are dorms and middle large building with large windows is Viking Union.

This is a shot Lizzi snapped of Bellingham Bay from the Viking Union at Western Washington University. I spent many hours between classes admiring this view from the VU while I studied (or napped). 

Heron

We've had some exceptionally warm weather lately so I took the kids to the marina to enjoy the sun. As we walked the sidewalk that borders the marina, I looked down and happened to see this heron sitting on the shore less than ten feet from me. It was a bit agitated to have me so close, but not enough to fly away so we were able to watch it for a bit. 

Sentinel

The moon peaks through a foggy night and looks down at the sculpture "Sentinel" on Holly street.



Grand Avenue

The reflection of the bar at Grand Avenue Ale House.  Our great group of friends celebrated lizziviggi's birthday this last weekend with a fabulous night out on the town while all our kiddos stayed home with babysitters.  A fun night it was.

Bath Time

It was humorous to find a bath tub in this wooded area near my house.  Do you think the tub was just dumped here or does someone enjoy bathing in nature.  There is a stream right near by with lots of ice cold water.  Any takers?
