A Movie on the Village Green

On Saturday nights 'Hamsters of all ages gather on Fairhaven's Village Green for a late movie under the stars.  On this night we packed a blanket and sleeping bags (it's still cool in our corner of the country) and settled in for "The Muppets."

Not Reading a Book on a Bench

She sits on the bench and looks at the book.
Her fingers are red with cold
the wind stings her cheeks
and she can't read the words.
It doesn't matter.
Impervious to weather and reading ability,
she's captivated by the world in the pages.
Her imagination is free from the manipulation
of the author's carefully chosen phrases.
This is not his story, it's hers.
Her story, her world, her universe.

A Solid Foundation...

...and a crumbling facade house one my favorite book stores in town. The girls wanted to ride the bus yesterday so we bundled up, walked to the nearest bus stop and made our way to Fairhaven for lunch.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

We ventured to the Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema with the girls last night. Despite the cool evening, blankets, people and chairs completely covered the village green for a chance to see a classic.

Fairhaven Farmers Market

On Wednesdays from 12-5 the Bellingham Farmers Market is in Fairhaven on the Village Green. Yesterday was the first day I went, and it was nice-- way low-key in comparison with the uber-bustling Saturday market at the Market Depot.

Happiness

Tucked away
at the end of the path--
happiness incarnate.
A man...
and the sports page.

After I posted this, I remembered that it was Earth Day, and I'd meant to do an Earth Day post. Oh well, this picture takes place on earth, doesn't it?

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

Fairhaven Village Green

The Fairhaven Village Green is right behind Village Books (Best. Bookstore. Ever.) and during the warm months is the location of lots of outdoor concerts and movies. My oldest daughter and I caught the very last outdoor movie of the year, The Princess Bride. On that occasion it was more the Village Rainbow than the Village Green, with the colorful array of sleeping bags and blankets and people. Alas, I didn't have the camera then, so you get this picture instead!
