Whatcom Hills

As spring weather is finally upon us, the lake looks more inviting. But beware, there is still snow up in the hills and as it melts I'm sure its keeping the lake icy cold for a few months to come.

Crisp

It's hard to complain about a little more snow when morning looks like this.

I Spoke Too Soon...

...two weeks ago when I posted that spring seemed to be on the way. Winter couldn't leave without one final dusting of snow last weekend. And another yesterday. And perhaps one today.

A Place to Sit and Enjoy the Cold Dairy Air?

A scene from last month's snow storms.  Spring seems to be on the way so this will hopefully be our only snow of the year.

E is 3!

Happy Birthday to my eldest little cutie.  She is a free spirit who keeps me on my toes and brings a smile to everyone she meets.  She loved our last week of snow as you can see.

Tree of Nawlege?

When tagging a tree on a college campus, you may want to check the spelling before you whip out your knife!

Sitting on Top of the World

Yesterday's snowball was too big to make into a snowman, but the kids put it to good use anyway.

Go Big or Go Home

A snow day meant a play day for children of all ages at the park yesterday. These two grown children were busy working on an appropriately sized snowball. Good luck throwing that one!

Snowed In

With the roads covered with snow and ice, I have hauled up at home with my little ones.  This lovely view was shot from my sliding glass door looking out towards the homes across the lake.

Winter Wonderland

Monday brought more snow to Bellingham.  This is the view from my street looking down the hill at Lake Whatcom.  This was probably at about 3 inches, but as I schedule this post we have about 10 inches.

Sailing in the Snow

Sunday was a mix of sun, wind and snow.  My family happened upon Boulevard Park as the snow was really coming down and my little ones had fun chasing snowflakes.  As we were leaving the park we spotted this boat out for a snowy sail.  Once we got about a half mile inland, the snow was gone and the skies were clear and sunny.

Frosty

We are finally getting some winter snow with slush in the city and white in the foothills.  The dock that is the source of much summer time fun, is now covered in a thick layer of frost.  I am definitely not trying to get down that ramp anytime soon.

Skywatch Friday: Lummi Snow

Temperatures are dropping and so is the snow level. Lummi Island got a dusting last night and we're supposed to get our first snow here in the lowlands today.  Winter is on it's way!

Ponderosa Pines

My dad and his twin brother turned sixty this past week. To mark the occasion we met up at his cabin in the backwoods of Washington near Okanogan. On a hike into the national forest above the cabin we came upon this stand of Ponderosa pine.

Happy 60th!

Winter Remnants

Melting snow clings to ambered winter ferns.

It may feel like spring in the lowlands, but Mount Baker is looking to break the world's snowfall record yet again. Mount Baker has received more than 12 feet of snow in the last two weeks. If the forecast is correct, Mount Baker may top its own world record for both the most snowfall in one year and the most snowfall in one month. Meanwhile for us below the mountain in Bellingham, it's mostly just been very, very wet.

Frozen February... Fresh February

I thought it would be interesting to compare last February to this one, so I posted two pictures today. Can you guess which is which?
