On Friday I went to Village Books to see one of my favorite writers, Elizabeth George, talk about her latest novel. Elizabeth George writes the bestselling Inspector Lynley series. My tastes generally run more literary than mystery, but that's what is so brilliant about her books-- they are intricate literary pieces with deep social subtexts, which also happen to be page-turning mysteries.

I don't think I have ever read one of her books, but I do read a lot of detective novels. But I have enjoyed the TV show The Inspector Lynley Mysteries. Did you get a signed copy?

ReplyDeleteAlways glad to get a recommendation for a good author. I usually listen to mysteries on CD/tape - I esp. like the Richard Jury series by Martha Grimes (and loved her Coldwater Junction books and Foul Matter), the characters are funny and very human. And lately, Robert Parker's Jesse Stone mysteries. I like the character of the policewoman Molly esp.
