A few bits of bark still cling to this Madrone tree. 

Most of these trees grow within a mile of the coastline here in Washington and B.C, and only in certain soils, so they are quite a treat to see.  Their reddish bark peels off, leaving the smooth trunk exposed.

  2. That is beautiful. I would love to see the entire tree, but the texture here is wonderful.

  3. We call them Arbutus up in BC. We have several trees high on the granite cliff over our cabin. There are lots more down near the lake shore. They are beautiful trees. - Margy
