I just stumbled across this photo and have no idea where it was, but I was struck by how much this looks like a diorama of a beach.

Thankful for Family
Wishing all of you a warm and happy Thanksgiving. I couldn't be more thankful for my fantastic little family. Tomorrow we will join even more family, and enjoy a fun and chaotic day filled with laughter and great food.

Layover
Looking northeast from Anacortes towards the Cascade Mountains in Canada. On our last trip to the San Juan Islands, we missed our scheduled ferry by three cars, so we enjoyed a few hours on the beach.

Skywatch Friday: Manzanita
This past weekend, the kids and I traveled to the Oregon coast with my friend Chad and his son. After spending a good part of the day in the car, we rolled in to Manzanita with just enough time for a pizza dinner and a quick walk down to the beach to catch the sunset.

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity-Jig
From sand and surf and solitude...
To slugs and smiles and "Don't touch that!"
You know what? Solitude is nice and all, but I'll take that smile any day.

Weathered Stone, Weathered Wood
On the beach at South Whidbey Island, someone had decorated a huge old driftwood stump with various shells and stones. I liked the way this stone was placed, its marbled swirls and whorls echoed in the aged lines of wood behind it.
