Skywatch Friday: Manzanita

This past weekend, the kids and I traveled to the Oregon coast with my friend Chad and his son. After spending a good part of the day in the car, we rolled in to Manzanita with just enough time for a pizza dinner and a quick walk down to the beach to catch the sunset.

Check out Chads's photo blog HERE
(Sorry Chad, I picked out this picture before I saw you posted a very similar one!)

Skywatch Friday: An Evening Stroll

A few hearty Bellinghamsters stroll down the boardwalk to take in the setting sun.  As sunset approaches on warmer nights, there is often a string of photographers along the boardwalk's edge waiting for the perfect shot.

Snohomish Sunset

My family spent our Christmas evening in Snohomish, Washington were cousins played, gifts were exchanged, and a yummy dinner was shared.  I did happen to catch the beautiful sky changing colors while I played with my Christmas present, a fantastic new camera!!

Skywatch Friday: Roosevelt Field

When yesterday's spinning exercises were over, we hung around the park long enough to get a few sunset pictures before it was time to go home.

Reflecting a Sunset

The setting sun illuminates the windows of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fairhaven's South Hill neighborhood.

Happy trails to you...

...until we meet again.

It's not really goodbye goodbye. Still, I have so much going on I just can't keep up with it all. I don't want to give up running, school, writing, or family and friends, so I'm afraid it has to be Bellingham Daily Photo that goes. Luckily, Eli and my good friend Lorelle are working out a time-share arrangement with BDP, so they'll keep it going together. I'm excited to see the fresh ways they'll each look at Bellingham and share it with you. It's amazing how there's always something new to see just around the corner, and how everyone sees something different about our beautiful town. Thank you, Lorelle and Eli!

Although I can't keep up with a daily photo blog, I can't give up the blogging habit entirely (nor do I want to!). I'll just be over at what is my currently oft-neglected blog, lizziviggi and the life worth living, and I'll make sure it's not quite so neglected.

I hope to see you there, old friends.

Transition

Though a cloudless sky is pleasant enough,
a tumultuous one is what makes life intriguing and beautiful.
Welcome change.

Skywatch Friday: Rays of Light

The setting sun shines its light on the beach at South Whidbey Island State Park.

Sun, oh sun, it is so nice to see you again!

Skywatch Friday: Sunset Through a Tree

the wispy tree
lays her spindled fingers lightly
over the sun
caressing it like a departing lover
she can't wait to see again

Skywatch Friday

This is my last post until Monday, because we're headed to nearby Birch Bay for a teensy little camping getaway. Hopefully we'll have decent weather and I'll return with some lovely photos to share.
Send warm weather thoughts our way, and happy weekend to all!

Skywatch Friday: Vicissitude

The vicissitude
as sun set and storm brewed
flooded the sky with chromaticity--
hues of great intensity.

(I just love the word vicissitude--
but you have to say it with attitude!)

Marine Park at Dusk

A steady stream of silhouettes
parade up and down the railroad tracks--
color leaching away as the sun sets
turning reds and blues and greens to black.

Haiku #8

sunlight's last pink gleam
the splash of kayaks, the smell
of coming snow

Monday One Stop Poetry Form: Haiku

I couldn't stop thinking in haiku, so I posted another at my other blog:

Skywatch Friday: Teddy Bear Cove

Teddy Bear Cove

I discovered a new beach near town when a friend and I hiked down to get some sunset photos. Instead of sand, the beach is covered with crushed white shells giving it a rather Hawaiian feel. Once [notorious/popular] as a clothing optional beach, Teddy Bear cove was [cleaned up/ruined] by the long arm of the law several years back and is now a popular family destination.

Skywatch Friday: Waiting for St. Nick

This chimney, silhouetted against a wintry sunset, waits patiently for Santa Claus to come visit.

I took this picture on Wednesday, December 22, at 3:55 PM. The sun sank below the horizon at 4:16 PM, but gave us 2 more seconds of daylight than the previous day, the shortest day of the year. Longer days are already here! ;-)

Winter Run

He runs again past the mystery ship,
always moored along his route.
It's in his mind till dinnertime,
then just as quickly out.

P.S. I just realized it's Thursday, not Wednesday. Oops! Leaving the Watery Wednesday badge anyway!

December Theme Day: Time

In the Pacific Northwest this time of year, daylight hours are precious because they are so brief. In the summer, the sun casts light through this channel between Whatcom Creek and Bellingham Bay right before it sets for the day at 9:30 PM. Alas, the winter sun is an early-to-bed type fellow. I took this picture of the last rays of sunlight just before it set at 4:19 PM. All time is precious, but daylight time is the sweetest of all.
