Bay View

The view from the Barkley Hills neighborhood of downtown Bellingham, the bay and the San Juan islands.  Not too shabby, huh?

Skywatch Friday: Western View

This is a shot Lizzi snapped of Bellingham Bay from the Viking Union at Western Washington University. I spent many hours between classes admiring this view from the VU while I studied (or napped).

Skywatch Friday: An Evening Stroll

A few hearty Bellinghamsters stroll down the boardwalk to take in the setting sun.  As sunset approaches on warmer nights, there is often a string of photographers along the boardwalk's edge waiting for the perfect shot.

Weekend Reflections: Boats on the Bay

As I drove by I spotted these boats reflected perfectly in the still harbor water. By the time I parked the car and made my way back, one pesky duck was swimming around, intent on rippling my reflections!

Skywatch Friday: And The Sun Shines on the Bay

'Tis the season of going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark which makes it tough to get any photos this time of year. To remedy the situation, I bailed out of work a little early last week and went home the long way along the bay to hunt for a couple of photo ops. This little patch of park lies just south of the Bellingham International Airport runway. In the summer we like to come here, set out some blankets and watch the meteor showers. Every few minutes a jet will come over low enough to feel the jet wash as it lands.

Rope-Walking at Taylor Dock

This enterprising young man and his friends strung a rope across a section of Taylor Dock and worked on their balancing act over the water last week. No one made it across while I was watching, but I think plunging into the bay was all part of the fun anyway.

Skywatch Friday: Seagull Sentry

In memory of my blogger friend Klaus Peter, whose bird photos are some of the best I've ever had the pleasure of seeing.
You will be missed, Klaus.
Thank you for sharing your breathtaking vision with us; in this way, you will live forever.

Kind of Blue...

...just like one of my favorite jazz albums.

This will be our only post this weekend, as we're leaving today for camping at South Whidbey State Park.
I hope everyone enjoys their weekend as much as we're going to!

Bird's-Eye View of Bellingham

Although it was taken through a scratched and dirty airplane window, I thought this aerial view of Bellingham at daybreak was pretty enough to post. This picture was taken on Friday, when I left behind the gray skies and intermittent snow of Bellingham for blue skies and palm trees in Palm Springs, California. I shopped, ate great food, hiked the hills, and laughed with my companions, all under the glorious California sun. I enjoyed my little getaway... but there's no place like home!
