There was a J C Penny store in Bellingham in 1983 when I stopped off briefly en route to Vancouver. Is it still there? I bought two polo shirts there, which I was so fond of all through my student days. They were so...exotic.
I love starting a slew of punny comments! Thanks for playing, guys. ;-)
@Linda: The J C Penney store is no longer downtown; it moved to the mall when it opened in 1989. Like most towns in America, our downtown turned into a ghost town threatened by malls and strip malls on the outskirts of the city limits. Luckily, priorities have shifted and now we have a thriving downtown once more, with lots of cool stores. No J C Penney, though.
Interesting visual effect. Great find!
