Northwest Crawfish

My friend Corey found this crawfish (or crayfish, crawdad, mudbug-- whatever you prefer!) hanging out on the bottom of Lake Whatcom with his much bigger older brother. Big brother apparently wasn't willing to grace us with his presence, so I took a snap of Junior here. No animals were harmed in the making of this picture (my little girl made sure of that). He was returned to his muddy home, safe and sound.

  1. Ah, no animals were harmed, but how about humans? Did you manage to avoid those pincers? Nothing was more fun as a kid than moving rocks around in the stream to find the big mother of all crayfish. I don't know if I'd still be as fearless.

  2. This little guy did pinch Corey a few times-- and he got some pretty good scrapes on his leg from the big one at the bottom! Isn't it funny that those simple things in childhood are the memories that are so magical now?
