The End of a Rainbow

This fantastic rainbow greeted me as I drove down to the bottom of my street.  I scrambled for my camera and was able to capture one shot before it began to disappear.

Eagle Eyes

As we were playing down at the beach this weekend and throwing rocks into the lake, I noticed we had someone watching us.  This beautiful eagle was perched high at the top of a nearby tree and surveyed the lake for his next meal.  Even from high up, he was magnifying.

Paddling II

I sure hope this little doggy enjoyed his trek across the lake.  I certainly was nervous the whole time for him.  But I noticed he appears to be wearing a little life jacket, so he was safe the whole time after all.

Dog Days of Summer

Charlie dog swims after his tennis ball on a hot summer day at Lake Whatcom.

Campfire

A wonderful and eventful evening spent down at the lake around a campfire.  A thunder storm had rolled through the area, so once it passed us by we built our fire and enjoyed watched the lightening across the lake.

Paddling

Three teenagers paddle board on Lake Whatcom.  It looks like fun, I wish I had one too.

"Boat" Battle

My husband told me a whole story about this guy and his boat. (Forgive me if some of the details aren't correct, its hearsay after all)  The rumor is he lived on the north end of the lake and tried to park his "boat" at the condo shared dock.  Imagine this, the condo board was not fond of the "boat" and battled to have it removed.  He battled back because I guess it is a fully licensed motor boat.  Well, I'm guessing the "boat" owner lost his battle because the "boat" is now parked a few docks down from ours.  It doesn't really bother me, but it isn't blocking my view either.

Whatcom Hills

As spring weather is finally upon us, the lake looks more inviting. But beware, there is still snow up in the hills and as it melts I'm sure its keeping the lake icy cold for a few months to come.

Ornamental Grass

I think this ornamental grass is actually prettier in the winter then in the summer.  The red strands pop out in its dormant stage.

Don't Tread on Me

The wheel on this wheel barrel sits upside down and waits for spring for and some use again at my neighbor's beach. Wait, I don't think I've ever seen actually it used.

Snowed In

With the roads covered with snow and ice, I have hauled up at home with my little ones.  This lovely view was shot from my sliding glass door looking out towards the homes across the lake.

Winter Wonderland

Monday brought more snow to Bellingham.  This is the view from my street looking down the hill at Lake Whatcom.  This was probably at about 3 inches, but as I schedule this post we have about 10 inches.

Frosty

We are finally getting some winter snow with slush in the city and white in the foothills.  The dock that is the source of much summer time fun, is now covered in a thick layer of frost.  I am definitely not trying to get down that ramp anytime soon.

Boat Lights

Christmas lights adorn this boat on Lake Whatcom.  Every year this boat gets all dressed up for the holidays.  It seems to be its only time to shine as I've never seen this boat leave it's dock.

Dawn

I do not know that I have ever woken early with the expressed intent of rising to watch the sunrise.  Considering dawn was at 7.29a.m. and sunrise at 8:03a.m. this morning, it was no small feat to take a nice walk down to the lake for some pictures.  I only wish that I had thought to bring a hot cup of coffee with me, as my fingers were freezing. Watching the sky go from black to purple to blue was amazing and a fantastic way to start my day.

What I wake up to every day...

One nice thing about summer turning to fall is cutting down the overgrown wisteria and once again enjoying our lake view.

I am very excited to be joining Bellingham Daily Photo. I hope I can share a new perspective of our wonderful city.

Lummi War Canoe

The girls and I got a chance to paddle a Lummi
War Canoe down Lake Whatcom at the Bellingham Children's Festival yesterday. While paddling, our captain (in back) talked about the Lummi culture and sang two traditional Lummi songs that served to identify which family was in the canoe as it approached its destination. This canoe was built last year and was in the water for only the second time.

Different

The little girl felt bad for him,
the different one.
She called out from the shore
stories of aberrant characters,
told him about Rudolph
and the Ugly Duckling.
Startled by her shouting,
he swam to join his darker brothers
and noticed
for the first time
he was different.
