Zodiac II

If you compare my latest image of the Zodiac schooner with the last one I posted, you'll notice something is a little different. Okay, a lot different. If you haven't clicked on the link to the other post yet, you may be thinking to yourself "Don't schooners usually have masts or something?" Bingo!

In late September the Zodiac had a boatload of kids on a sunny, windy day. Suddenly-- CRACK!-- the mast broke off and fell in the water, and the boom crashed down to the deck. Luckily, there were only a couple minor injuries, and the trusty Coast Guard helped everyone get home safely. For now the biggest working schooner on the West Coast is not a working schooner at all, but I'm sure she'll be sailing these blue waters again soon. Until then, she looks pretty even with a haircut.

  1. Oh, she is pretty, but I'm sure she's missing her true birthright. :)

  2. Wow. What a contrast. Your photo today is a good one, even though the schooner is missing something. Glad the injuries were minor.

  3. The owner seems ta have made the best of the situation. But what a shame, what a poor boat!

  4. An interesting story...but whatever the fates hold for this schooner, you've posted a very beautiful photograph with great colors and light. And the reflection is superb!

If you would, send your email address to me at yanson2@aol.com. I'll follow up on our what I said about my Mom.

  5. I bet the kids will remember that day for sure and I'm glad there weren't any major injuries.
Great shot of it, I love the reflection.

  6. Love the lighting on this. And it would have made a great weekend reflections photo, too.
