Under the bridge in Astoria there was a great little park we let the kids run around in to stretch their legs. The hotel in the reflection was right on the riverfront boardwalk and had bicycles out front that guests could hop on and ride the trail.

Weekend Reflection: Stools
Lizzi already posted a picture of Owl's Soda Fountain last week, but I couldn't resist using a close up of the stools for weekend reflections.

Grand Avenue
The reflection of the bar at Grand Avenue Ale House. Our great group of friends celebrated lizziviggi's birthday this last weekend with a fabulous night out on the town while all our kiddos stayed home with babysitters. A fun night it was.

Weekend Reflections: Stadium Piece
Windows from Academic Instructional West at Western Washington University reflect "Stadium Piece," a sculpture by Bruce Nauman.
Expect to see more WWU campus photos this year. I'm a student once more! You know, parenting, writing a novel, training for a half marathon, and daily photo blogging wasn't keeping me busy enough.
We're off yet again-- this time to backpack the Washington coast for a few days. (Sans kids-- wheeee!) I hope your weekend is as lovely as ours is going to be!

Weekend Reflections: Waiting for the Keystone Ferry
I'm not sure what exactly this is for-- it looks like the ferry officials have repurposed pilings as a sort of watchtower, or maybe a monitoring station of some kind. The seagulls have repurposed the grass growing on top of the pilings to be their nests. So this collection of pilings is not only rather pretty, reflected in the still water off Whidbey Island, but apparently useful too.

Weekend Reflections: Fairies in the Forest
"Oh my goodness, did you see Starflower's new wings? So last century!"
"I know! What was she thinking? Doesn't she know it's all about pink this season?"
"Well, you look marvelous, dear."
"Thank you, darling. As do you."

Weekend Reflections: Playground Mirror
she watches her reflection
under the slide
the way it undulates
as someone slides down
and pretends she's a mermaid
under silver water

Weekend Reflections: Water Sprites
A pair of water sprites admire their reflections in a pond at Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens.
We were there for the Magical Flower and Fairy Festival.

Weekend Reflections: Tulip Fields Forever
A field of yellow tulips is reflected in my daughter's sunglasses.
Well, actually, they're MY sunglasses. The borrowing has started already.
If she was a folk singer in the 1970's, this would totally be her album cover.

She's only five...
...but she's already dreaming of the day she can wear a dress like this.

December Theme Day: Time
In the Pacific Northwest this time of year, daylight hours are precious because they are so brief. In the summer, the sun casts light through this channel between Whatcom Creek and Bellingham Bay right before it sets for the day at 9:30 PM. Alas, the winter sun is an early-to-bed type fellow. I took this picture of the last rays of sunlight just before it set at 4:19 PM. All time is precious, but daylight time is the sweetest of all.
