Skywatch Friday: World of Color

On our last night in Disneyland we wandered over to California Adventure to watch the World of Color display over the Paradise Bay Lagoon. Jets of water and laser dance over the lagoon in time with music from many of Disney's movies combined with footage from the film projected on sheets of water.  A few fireballs are mixed in for impact as well. Well done Disney, well done.

Skywatch Friday: Blue

Expecting friends of ours invited us to the park for the announcement of their baby's gender.  We lugged a gift wrapped box to the center of the field for the grand announcement and stood around as they cut the top off. As you can see it's a boy...Congratulations!

Skywatch Friday: Manzanita

This past weekend, the kids and I traveled to the Oregon coast with my friend Chad and his son. After spending a good part of the day in the car, we rolled in to Manzanita with just enough time for a pizza dinner and a quick walk down to the beach to catch the sunset.

Check out Chads's photo blog HERE
(Sorry Chad, I picked out this picture before I saw you posted a very similar one!)

Skywatch Friday: Gulls Just Wanna Have Sun

Q: How does one tell when LizziViggi is doing a guest post?
A: When the title is a very, very bad pun.

Happy Skywatch Friday, everyone!

Skywatch Friday: An Evening Stroll

A few hearty Bellinghamsters stroll down the boardwalk to take in the setting sun.  As sunset approaches on warmer nights, there is often a string of photographers along the boardwalk's edge waiting for the perfect shot.

Skywatch Friday: And The Sun Shines on the Bay

'Tis the season of going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark which makes it tough to get any photos this time of year. To remedy the situation, I bailed out of work a little early last week and went home the long way along the bay to hunt for a couple of photo ops. This little patch of park lies just south of the Bellingham International Airport runway. In the summer we like to come here, set out some blankets and watch the meteor showers. Every few minutes a jet will come over low enough to feel the jet wash as it lands.

Skywatch Friday: Something's Brewing

When she's done with the swings we head for our car. The trail is long and her hands are cold so we stop several times while I convince her to keep moving before the rain comes.  During one of these stops a ray of light falls across the field before the clouds settle in.

Skywatch Friday: Roosevelt Field

When yesterday's spinning exercises were over, we hung around the park long enough to get a few sunset pictures before it was time to go home.

Skywatch Friday: Clayton Beach

After digging through pictures of December's murky skies and perpetual twilight, I decided it was time to brighten the mood and post something from a half year ago when the summer evenings would last until almost ten o'clock at night.
***
Low tide at Clayton beach exposes a strip of old pilings, remnants of the booming fishing industry that Whatcom County was built on.

Skywatch Friday: Alabama Hill

Alabama Street runs from Bellingham Bay to Lake Whatcom (behind me in this picture). Several years ago the city built a pedestrian overpass near the top of the hill that provides an excellent vantage point for sunset pictures.

Skywatch Friday: Fall! Ooooh! The Rainbow!

Every year, a group of our friends and their kids gather at Back Lane Gardens to carve our Halloween pumpkins.  After an evening shower chased us into the greenhouse, we were rewarded with this stunning rainbow.

Transition

Though a cloudless sky is pleasant enough,
a tumultuous one is what makes life intriguing and beautiful.
Welcome change.

Skywatch Friday: P-51 Mustang

A couple of weekends back we visited the Heritage Flight Museum for their Warbird Weekend Fly Day. Pilots of vintage aircraft converged on Bellingham and took turns showing off their aircraft and flying skills above an admiring crowd. "Val Halla" is a P-51 Mustang owned and piloted by Bill Anders.
