Weekend Reflections On the Past

These old pilings jut out of the water near the boat launch at Bloedel Donovan park.  In Bellingham's formative years, this was the site of the Blodel Donovan Lumber Mill, the remains of which we are looking at here. Around the same time, Lizzi's family operated the Ed Gooding Shingle Company near Glen Echo.

Weekend Reflections: Silhouettes

The morning fog rolled back just in time to catch a little hint of the sunrise before it, too, disappears.

Misty Morn II

Before the sun arrived to illuminate yesterday's trees, my path was darker, but no less beautiful.

Misty Morning

I took a morning walk in Bloedel Donovan Park. The fog was just beginning to break as the sun reached this stand of bare trees.

there's finally time to sit and reflect.

Lummi War Canoe

The girls and I got a chance to paddle a Lummi
War Canoe down Lake Whatcom at the Bellingham Children's Festival yesterday. While paddling, our captain (in back) talked about the Lummi culture and sang two traditional Lummi songs that served to identify which family was in the canoe as it approached its destination. This canoe was built last year and was in the water for only the second time.

Doting Parent

This stately mother/father is always somewhere nearby her/his nest at the edge of Whatcom Falls Park. This was taken across the street at Bloedel Donovan Park-- still within an eagle-eyed view of her/his babies.

Supermoon!

We had several prettier pictures of the perigee moon from March 19, but I chose this one because it made me laugh. It looks like the moon is so bright these people are shielding their eyes from it! Either that, or they're about to be beamed up into a moon-like spaceship. In reality, someone had just turned their headlights on.

This was taken at Bloedel Donovan.

United States Navy #7

Steam Engine #7 sits in a field at Bloedel Donovan Park. It was built by H K Porter Co. in November of 1918 for the United States Navy. After some online searching I found a picture of this steam engine abandoned in a Seattle yard in 1949.

www.steamlocomotive.info provides some great information on this steam engine.

Weekend Reflections: Oh I'm Such a Good Boy!

The dog returns
bringing his ball back for another throw.

Moments later he posed for Tuesday's post.

Bloedel Donovan Park on a Hot Evening

It has hit 90 degrees Fahrenheit here the last few days, which is not the norm around here. I took this at about 8:30 last night-- if I'd taken it earlier in the day, you wouldn't have seen the grass for all the people. There were some brave souls jumping off the bridge into the water, which looked quite refreshing!
