Skywatch Friday: Morning Trickles In

After a week of rain, a touch of color this morning suggests we may see a little sun today.

Skywatch Friday: In the Morning

Joggers and kayakers were already circling Lake Padden when I arrived to wait for sunrise.

November Sunrise

With two little ones and our absolutely rotten weather lately, I have not made it out to take many pictures.  So today I will share a pretty sunrise I captured back in the fall from my back deck.  I actually like the power pole, I think it makes an interesting silhouette against the brightening sky.

Weekend Reflections: Silhouettes

The morning fog rolled back just in time to catch a little hint of the sunrise before it, too, disappears.

Dawn

I do not know that I have ever woken early with the expressed intent of rising to watch the sunrise.  Considering dawn was at 7.29a.m. and sunrise at 8:03a.m. this morning, it was no small feat to take a nice walk down to the lake for some pictures.  I only wish that I had thought to bring a hot cup of coffee with me, as my fingers were freezing. Watching the sky go from black to purple to blue was amazing and a fantastic way to start my day.

Bird's-Eye View of Bellingham

Although it was taken through a scratched and dirty airplane window, I thought this aerial view of Bellingham at daybreak was pretty enough to post. This picture was taken on Friday, when I left behind the gray skies and intermittent snow of Bellingham for blue skies and palm trees in Palm Springs, California. I shopped, ate great food, hiked the hills, and laughed with my companions, all under the glorious California sun. I enjoyed my little getaway... but there's no place like home!

Skywatch Friday: Dawn at Broadway Park

When I saw the pink-tinged clouds this morning, I piled on the layers and ran down to Broadway Park for some sunrise pictures. Dogs were rushing after the balls their people were throwing for them. I hovered at the edge, trying to dodge tennis balls, trying to not get run over by enthusiastic retrievers, and trying to stay warm in the 23-degree morning. My fingertips were starting to freeze after about thirty minutes in the cold, so I didn't quite make it to actual sunrise, but I did get some pretty shots anyway. Plus, I made some new doggie friends, and isn't that even better?

Happy Last Day of 2010!

P.S. Look, Chad! I didn't use "sunset" mode!

Skywatch Friday: Sunrise at Deception Pass

Last Saturday I drove from Bellingham to Hedgebrook, a women writers' retreat at the south end of Whidbey Island. It was a fantastic day, but one of the best parts of it was that I got to drive over Deception Pass at sunrise. It was a beautiful beginning to a glorious day!
